Color Splash Sunday - Yellow Taxi

Welcome to Color Splash Sunday!

Color splash photos are those that have been converted to black and white, but one object has been left colored. Sometimes, it's easy to just isolate your colored object and you're done. Other times, more editing is required, such as adjusting color levels/light/shadow/etc.

This is an open themed link-up, so there won't be any specific themes for your photos. Any photo is fine, as long it was taken or setup by you, has selective color, and you haven't posted it before. You can read more about CSS guidelines by clicking here.

There will not be any top 3 favorite photos during the summer.

Let's see your selective coloring photos for this week!

Edit Me - 7.29.11

My Reflection of Something
Disclaimer: This is not my photo. I did not take it.

I was so overjoyed to see the photo for this week. I spend much of my free time hanging out with my younger brother and his friends, some of whom have DS. I believe that all children with disabilities are innocent angels, blessings sent from God to teach their families how to be better parents/sisters/brothers. So I knew, as soon as I saw this photo, exactly how I wanted to edit it.

SOOC:

My edit:

My steps:
-ACR: desaturate and adjust contrast + exposure to my liking

-PSE8: resize canvas, stretch left side, crop
-Gaussian blur layer to soften skin and background
-CoffeeShop Perfect Portrait 3
-CoffeeShop Sweet Bakery Glazes - Vanilla Glaze @ 48%
-text, watermark, done!

My thoughts: Honestly, I am uber-happy with my edit. I completely and totally love how it looks. Period. End of story.

Do you agree??

Texture Tuesday - Dreaming by Moonlight

For KK's Texture Tuesday challenge today, the theme is DREAM. Here is our task:

Your image must be centred around the word/verb DREAM.... and contain at least one layer of any of my textures. (don't over think it...just whatever comes to mind.... have fun with it.)

I decided to search for quotes about dreaming. When I found one I liked, I then searched my photos for something that fit. This is what I ended up with:

Here are my layers after processing the photo in ACR:

Color Splash Sunday - Blue Balloons

Welcome to Color Splash Sunday!

This balloons are from my cousin's graduation party. The photo was really dark because I had been previously been taking photos of the sunset, and I forgot to switch settings before taking this photo. I knew it would be really hard to brighten it up without screwing up the colors or adding excess noise, so I figured a selective coloring edit would be perfect!

Before I post the inlinkz, I just wanted to tell you all about a couple of things. First off, I was recently featured on Branson's blog, A Reflection of Something. CLICK HERE to see! Second, I started a facebook page for my blog. I know it's kinda the new thing for blogs, so I joined the trend. CLICK HERE for my Artistically Amy facebook page.

Okay, time to link up!

iPhonography - 7.23.11

I had started uploading these photos last week, but I forgot to finish and schedule this post. I couldn't let these iPhone photo collages go to waste, so here they are now!

Those first 2 collages are edits done with instagram because, as you already know, it's my favorite iphone photo app. Seriously... SO. ADDICTING.

This next collage also consists of instagram photos, but they were all filtered with earlybird.

If I can get myself organized before next weekend, I might have a better iPhonography post for you. It's all my head right now. With the wedding only 28 days away, most of my blog posts are like that... in my head, not on my blog!

Edit Me - 7.22.11

My Reflection of Something

My edit:

My steps in pse8:
-I actually opened the photo in ACR first to adjust warmth and exposure.
-stretch canvas and crop
-screen layer @ 25%
-high pass filter
-remove color cast from bucket on legs
-Fire Ants, tweaked
-edge burn

My thoughts: After last week's disastrous edge burn, I made myself re-learn how to make a soft vignette. I am so glad I did that! Also, I haven't stretched a canvas in awhile, so I am unsure if it looks natural.

Your thoughts?

Quotography - Birthdays

For Nicolasa's Quotography challenge this week, the theme is birthdays. Her birthday was last week! (You should all head over to her blog, {My} Perspective, and wish her a happy belated birthday!)

I chose a photo of my older brother from his birthday earlier this year. He was not amused when the waitstaff started singing to him at the restaurant. I guess he thinks that 28 years old is too old for fun surprises?!? I disagree!

Texture Tuesday - Pink Bells

For KK's texture challenge today, we are supposed to use her beautiful new texture, aurora. That was easy for me, because I have some pretty photos waiting to be processed, just yearning to have texture added to them.

After cropping and levels, here are my layers:

Color Splash Sunday - Matty!

Welcome to Color Splash Sunday!

Now, I know that my photo this week is not a great photo. Exposure is all off, the lighting was harsh, Matt is out of focus because I can't change shutter speed on my P&S, etc. But when I opened it on my computer, I just couldn't throw it out! I was hoping that the selective coloring would redeem it a little. I even decreased the contrast! (Shocking, because I usually love high contrast photos.)

Edit Me - 7.15.11

My Reflection of Something
Disclaimer: This is not my photo. I did not take it.

SOOC:

Edited:

My steps:
-crop
-levels
-warmer
-high pass filter
-MCP mini fusion bc I love all the tweakability
-manual eye sharpening and skin smoothing
-Little Bee, tweaked
-Cosmic Bang texture on overlay at 60%, brushed off him
-edge burn

My afterthoughts: I wish I had increased the warmth AFTER I did the skin smoothing. His face is kinda pale. Also, I don't like the harshness of the vignette, I wish it was softer. But I love the whimsical feel.

Honestly, though, I had so much fun editing this photo! I swear, Mandy must never tire of looking at photos of this sweet boy. She is one lucky mama!

RAW - Windows

The theme for RAW this week is windows. I had that theme in mind when I went to NYC last weekend, and took this photo. No editing here; all I did was rotate, resize, watermark, and save for web.

*I had to add in here that this is NOT my window (although I wish it was!). Jon and I went to the American Museum of Natural History last weekend. They have gorgeous views of the city skyline over Central Park.

RAW is run by Sami.
The only photos allowed are those that are
COMPLETELY UNEDITED.

Texture Tuesday - Pink Bouquet

For KK's texture challenge today, the theme is Pink. As soon as I saw the theme, I knew I had the perfect photo!

And here are my layers, after cropping and fixing levels.

I used a pink bokeh texture from deviant art, and KK's she loves you texture.
