I'm currently featuring a CT state park theme for my B&WW photos.
This headstone is one of several at Gay City State Park in Hebron, CT. From what I can read of the faded inscription: In memory of Matilda, daughter of Mr. Henry and Mrs. Molly S Sumner, who died April 19th, 1808 in the 7th year of her age. Gay City was a religious community founded by Rev. Henry Sumner in 1796. At the park, I took a lot of shots of this little cemetery, as well as a lovely rock wall that you can see in the background.

I love it!! I have been wanting to take Sephy to the cemetery and do pics. I found a photographer a while back and some of her best work was at the cemetery.
This is a powerful photo. Graveyards are such a mix of emotions. Serene and beautiful but a gathering spot for those who have been consumed with grief. Usually filled with old people there for a peaceful "rest" but some children are there too. Even after two hundred years, you can still imagine the grief of her parents when you see this grave marker. How many times did they visit here? If she'd lived, how many descendants would she have had? It gives me goosebumps.
