Black and White Wednesday - A Swing

the long road

Black and White Wednesday is run by Lisa over at
The Long Road to China.

This swing can be found at Putnam Memorial State Park in Redding, CT. This is CT's oldest state park, founded in the late 1800's. It was originally intended as simply a memorial to the troops that camped in Bethel in the late 1700's. Later on, the pleasure park aspect was added on nearby. I visited both sides of the park - the memorial with the ruins and the leisure with the lake and swings and picnic tables.

While I was at the park, I did my first DOF study.

Who wants a wedding update??

We picked a venue and already paid our first deposit.

Actually, I think that's all we've done since last week. I mean, that decision alone took hours, no lie. But once that was done and the contract signed, I felt like a huge weight had been lifted. Our date is set for August 20, 2011! I am trying to book a photographer in the next couple of weeks, and Jon has his little list of decisions to make, but then I can relax for a few months.

My mom and his mom are getting deep into engagement party planning. It's going to be exactly one year before the wedding; how cool is that?! But things are getting a bit confusing. The wedding is going to be traditional and semi-formal, even though I haven't picked a solid theme yet. The engagement party is going to be beachy and casual...

Does the theme for the engagement party need to correspond with the theme for the wedding?

Nah. It CAN, but doesn't have to... Our rehearsal dinner was totally different from our wedding, even. Our invites matched the theme, but we did electronic save-the-dates (costs much less!) and they didn't match... Nor did our thank-you's... I think you'd be fine doing a different theme for both, especially since there's a full YEAR separating the two events. I guarantee no one is going to show up to the wedding and be like, "What the whaaaaaa? I thought this was going to be a luau based on that party we had 12 months ago" ya know? I say: go with what ya like on all decisions and don't worry about what's common :o) I mean, you aren't an entirely mainstream kinda gal most of the time, right? Have fun!

Love your pics today. The swing looks so inviting. Fun way of practicing DOF. I like the second one best.

Good luck on your wedding plans. Just try and enjoy every aspect of it. It goes by so quickly... :-)

I didn't even know engagement parties had themes. I don't think they need to match.

Your B&Ws are all lovely! I love that edge you used on the first. Do you remember where you got it?

Yes you really know how to capture the beauty of nature (water, trees and acorns) with man-made objects (swing and table). The black and white lends to the 'artistic' sense of what you saw there, better than color would.
